'A' Tuning

About 'A' tuning:
This is not an 'open' tuning like open 'Gm' tuning.
To tune into 'A' tuning, you lower the 'B' (2nd) string down to 'A'.
The rest of the strings remain at standard pitch.

Over the years I've used 'A' tuning for lot's of songs, it's a favorite. The chords I've found and show here are beautiful and haunting - there are many more chords yet to be discovered.

I learned this wonderful tuning from Steve Gillette way back in the 1960's. Steve is originally from Southern California where he achieved legendary status for his songs and unique style of guitar playing. He now lives with his wife, folksinger/songwriter Cindy Mangsen, in Vermont. Aside from recordings on their own label, Compass Rose, Steve and Cindy each have recordings on many other labels.
